The Gunnison Valley Observatory is expanding our mission to provide education, stellar entertainment and exciting research opportunities right here in the Gunnison Valley.

Annually, the GVO typically hosts over 1300 visitors from the Gunnison Valley, around Colorado, across the United States and around the world, 4th grade students from Gunnison Elementary School, Cub Scouts, Lake City Middle and High School students, many Western State Colorado University (WSCU) astronomy students, and many more astronomy enthusiasts. We provide educational and entertaining lectures and programs, as well as viewing through the dome-housed 30” telescope and a variety of other smaller scopes.

And we’re not stopping there!

In 2014, we celebrated “First Light” in the Dr. Ted Violett Observatory (TVO), with the new WSCU telescope that was mounted by a generous donation in memory of Dr. Rodney and Anne Ash and others. The TVO enables WSCU students and other astronomy professionals to perform high-quality astronomy research projects. Exoplanet research is being currently conducted in the TVO.

But, we can’t do it without you!

The Gunnison Valley Observatory is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation.  Your generous tax-free membership donation will help us continue this unique opportunity for residents, K-12 students, visitors, and Western State Colorado University students.

Donating Members will be acknowledged at the Observatory.
